What is Duplex UNS S32001?

Duplex UNS S32001 is chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel with improved corrosion and crack propagation resistance compared to other duplex steels. It has excellent mechanical properties, high strength and toughness, and excellent corrosion resistance in most environments. This steel is composed of 26%-30% chromium, 3%-4% nickel, 0.2%-1.5% molybdenum, 1.-6 manganese and up to 0.15 phosphorus for higher strength at temperatures above 600°F (316°C). It also contains a small amount of nitrogen, which provides the added benefit of increased corrosion resistance in chloride-containing environments such as seawater, brine solutions or sour gas containing H2S sulphide ions. Due to its high alloy content, UNS S32001 duplex stainless steel offers good formability and superior weldability characteristics as it can be easily welded using welding processes like GTAW/GMAW/FCAW, etc. Its applications range from architectural facades to oil gas production equipment due to its enhanced strength and superior oxidation resistance compared to austenitic alloys like type 304 or 316L grade stainless steel.
